Video announcements inform, entertain

Each morning during 2nd bell, the announcements provide students with pertinent information regarding approaching school events and opportunities.  Many depend on them as their source for important deadlines and directions.
However, a substantial amount of students have difficulty dedicating their concentration to the news at hand at such an early hour of the morning.
Because of this fact, the announcements are occasionally conveyed in an alternative manner.  Video announcements get messages across while providing the student body with a different and oftentimes humorous point of view.
“Video announcements are entertaining,” said Mrs. Jennifer Ulland, advisor. “They grasp your attention a little bit better.”
Although many relish the jovial demeanor of the videos, not much is known about how these announcements actually make their way to classrooms.
These videos are generally put together by the group the information pertains to.  For example, an announcement covering Ultimate Frisbee would be constructed and scripted by members of the team themselves.
It is important that a small number of rules be acknowledged by those in the process of creating an announcement.  Ideally, all videos should be under 2.5 minutes in length.  In addition, all content must be school-appropriate.
The completed form of all announcements should be turned in to Ulland at least 3 days prior to its scheduled viewing date.  This provides satisfactory time to make any changes and ensure that the video works correctly.
The majority of students view video announcements as a refreshing way to receive information in the early morning.
“Sometimes, if you hear a voice over and over again, it’s a nice change,” said Ulland.
