Marching band, color guard head to band night practice

On Thursday, September 24, the color guard spent the day at the junior high along with the marching band for the annual band night practice.
For this practice, band members from sixth to twelfth grade come together to practice for a performance which will take place on the field before the homecoming game.
During the performance, all the band members will march onto the field and stand as they play a selection of songs, including a few from the Beatles.
“I love band night because the songs are fun and recognizable. It is really cool to see all of the different ages of people out on the field,” said Brynn Sharp, 12.
For some of the younger members, this will be an especially exciting event as it will be the first time they march in a performance and the first time they get to play alongside the marching band.
The marching band adds an extra piece of fun to the Thursday practice by having each section dress up in an entertaining theme. This tradition started many years ago and continues to be a highly remembered part of band night.
“This year I am being a fairy because I like fairies, and we are being Disney characters,” said Lindsey Swadner, 10.
After the morning practice is concluded, the marching band performs their halftime show for the rest of the performers. The marching band is then supplied lunch and spends the remainder of the school day practicing their show.
“Band night practice is really fun. We get to miss most of our classes for a day, and everyone dresses up in a specific category, which is entertaining,” said Alec Stamper, 10.
Despite missing a day of school and making up any missed work, marching band and color guard members typically enjoy the all day practice. Many can remember the first time they attended the event when they were younger.
“Practicing for band night is possibly my favorite practice. We get to spend all day outside and with our friends doing what we love: performing,” said Maddie Pope, 10.
