Fun times with recycling

As the world industry has grown over the years tons of waste and contaminants have been added to the planet.
With the increasing number of toxins being dumped on the planet, organizations and clubs such as SHS’s Environmental Club are working to decrease the problem. One example of Environmental Club’s dedication to saving the planet is their recycling project.
Cardboard boxes are located in most (if not all) classrooms at SHS.There is one box for paper, and another for cans and recyclable bottles.
Students are encouraged to recycle their papers and bottles insteadof just throwing them in the trash where they would take millions of years to breakdown.
Every Thursday, Environmental Club members team up to collect all the recycling from the classrooms. They split up into two teams; one hits the top floor while the rest collect on the bottom floor.
“Hanging out with friends while recycling is awesome,” said Mason Levy, 11.
The more people they have, the quicker it goes. But this task is notan annoying chore to them. They have fun by laughing and meeting new people.
“Recycling is my favorite activity I do all week. Not only do I get to hang out with some of the most awesome people EVER, but I get to save the planet in my own way,” said Emma Burgin, 11.
There is no one telling them how to collect, they just do it themselves for the school and the environment. Students interested in joining this friendly, outgoing club can meet in room 238 every Thursday after school.
“Recycling is the highlight of my whole week of school,” said Burgin.
