For SHS students who enjoy reading and studying the many works of Shakespeare, participating in a group dedicated to the poet and playwright provides an opportunity to pursue their interest and expand their knowledge with peers.

“I love the fact that students want to have a Shakespeare Club,” said Mrs. Judith Klefas, club advisor.

Shakespeare Club meets every Monday in Room 102. Each week, members anticipate reading and interpreting plays, watching movies, and sharing ideas.

“Shakespeare Club is really awesome because we can read Shakespeare with our friends,” said Claire Delong, 11.

So far, members have read the comedies Twelfth Night and Much Ado About Nothing. They recently began delving into Macbeth, which is one of Shakespeare’s widely-known tragedies.

In addition, the group has viewed the movies She’s the Man, which is based off of Twelfth Night, and 10 Things I Hate About You, which reflects the comedy The Taming of the Shrew.

Any student interested in becoming a part of the club is welcome to join at any time. The group will hold its next meeting on Monday, Feb. 1.

“We bring people together by appreciating Shakespeare,” said Delong.
