The Taming of the Shrew
To celebrate their completion of Macbeth, members of Shakespeare Club have begun watching The Taming of The Shrew. The film is based off of Shakespeare’s well-known comedy of the same name. The group will continue to watch the movie on upcoming meeting dates, which occur each Monday. Image courtesy of Alta Vista.

Throughout recent meetings, Shakespeare Club has been focusing on reading Macbeth, a well-known tragedy that tells the story of a man’s determination to become king and his ensuing struggle with pride. Members anticipated continuing the tale and discovering its outcome.

To celebrate the conclusion of the piece, the group began watching The Taming of the Shrew at its latest meeting on Monday, Mar. 1.

“This movie [The Taming of the Shrew] is one of the funniest Shakespeare movies I have ever seen!” said Claire Delong, 11.

The 1967 film is based off of Shakespeare’s famous comedy of the same name, which depicts the courtship of a man named Petruchio and the strong-willed Katarina. Katarina is referred to as a shrew, meaning a nagging and temperamental woman.

“All of the people are so ridiculous! The dad is totally out of it, Katarina just screams and breaks everything, and the music tutor just cracks me up!” said Delong.

The group will continue to watch the movie at their next meeting on Monday, Mar. 8, which will be held in room 102 after school. New members are encouraged to attend at any time.

“I love Shakespeare!” said Delong.
