As guests poured into the Commons on Saturday, Mar. 13 to enjoy this year’s Wizard of Oz themed Odd Couples Ball, students and their parents found themselves face to face with flying monkeys, a spinning tornado, and even the wizard himself.

“The decorations were amazing!” said Lauren Barrett, 11.

The intricate task of transporting attendees to the land of Oz was no simple undertaking – dozens of parent and student volunteers diligently devoted their time to preparing the hundreds of decorations that composed the fantastical setting.

“It was fun to help out and decorate! I made the tornado,” said Bailey Dowlin, 11.

Willing individuals came in after school to paint backdrops, build characters, create layouts, and assist in many other areas in an effort to bring guest’s surroundings to life.

Some, such as parent volunteer Mary Beth Dowlin, even continued working on creating decorations at home.

“I felt like my house was taken over by the Wizard of Oz! I was so creeped out having flying monkeys in my house!” said Dowlin.

Because of the tremendous efforts of student and parent volunteers, guests who attended the Odd Couples Ball were presented with a truly unique experience. The mystical world that they created proved to be one attendees will not soon forget.
