Yesterday’s track meet at Fairfield, the preliminaries for the Friday’s Apr. 10 finals held at Fairfield, many of SHS’s track athletes were able to secure spots in the finals meet, even with the heavy winds that presented themselves throughout the entire meet. Both girls and guys 4 by 400m relay teams are competing on Friday, with the guys team tied for first and the girls in second. Emily Elsbrock, 12 came out of the 300m hurdles with a first place win and a secured spot for the Friday meet at Fairfield. “I felt pretty happy about my results and am very happy that as the first meet of the season I was able to do so well,” said Elsbrock. “I will also be running in the 4 by 400m relay, so I’ll need to keep my focus from now until Friday, if we want to come out of this on top.” Currently, no SHS track runners hold spots in the GMC, as Wednesday’s Fairfield meet was the first meet for the track meet, and other schools have had at least two to three meets under their belt by now. “I’m feeling pretty confident after seeing everyone’s results from yesterday,” said Coach Hank Ray. “I saw a lot of my athletes set up to the plate that are new runners or new to varsity events and we were very successful.” Other events such as the pole vault and high jump founds difficultly with the weather, but we able to be competitive with their jumps, but as first meets go, it was not a huge success for them. “I had been doing really well at practice with few kinks, but wasn’t even able to clear opening height and it was extremely frustrating for me,” said Rebecca Roessler, 11. “The first home meet of the season, this coming Tuesday against Loveland. We always dominate Loveland, so I’m looking forward to getting my stride back.” – Posted: Thu, Apr 08 2010 9:05:03 AM EST by Catherine Farist |
