Every year, a couple underclassmen take charge and create a small play to poke fun at those they have looked up to for the past years. “The senior skit is the junior’s and other underclassmen’s way of saying thank you and goodbye to the seniors while getting to poke fun at their friends,” said Jeff Silverstein, 11. Laura Birckhead, 11, and Silverstein, took charge. “We’ve been planning things since freshmen year,” said Birckhead. Since freshmen year, these two now juniors have had a watchful eye for good material. They remember the inside jokes, funny mistakes, and embarrassing moments at rehearsal that all the now seniors have gone through. Casting was held to see what underclassman would play what senior. People were asked to write a monologue as if they were the senior. “I got to see why a casting director’s job can be so hard. You have to take what you get and put it together in a way that works. We had a lot of great people to work with which made it more fun but more difficult,” said Silverstein. The cast list was put up the day after auditions on Tuesday, May 11. “The skit is an Aves theater tradition Spending so much time with all of these people you really grow super close, which allows you to pull more of their personal traits and put them into the skit, which makes it a lot more personal and connects you to them more,” said Samantha Misali, 10. The final skit will be performed at Aves Theatre Awards on Wednesday, May 26 at 7:00 pm in the big theatre for students and parents. “Even though we will miss them, it was great to get to know the seniors throughout the year, and I think it’s great that we have one last night of fun with them before they leave,” said Keely Buckley, 9. – Posted: Thu, May 13 2010 11:50:13 AM EST by Kelsey Drapkin |
