Snow and ice cause school closing

Tuesday, students and teachers were surprised with a snow day followed by a 90 minute delay Wednesday. This was the first snow day and delay of the year.
“I was definitely surprised that we had a snow day. The day before I didn’t even think we would have a chance. It was really nice to get a day off and be able to sleep in,” said Leah Reis, 10.
Last year, students had four snow days, something that had not happened in many years. Similar to this year, last year’s snow days were caused by icy conditions around this time of year.
“[having four snow days] was nice, but after a while it became really boring, and the makeup work was a pain,” said Rashmi Borah, 10.
A new calling system was put in place last year to alert students and teachers about delays, closings, and other announcements. The system automatically calls students and teachers with a prerecorded voice message as soon as possible.
“The calling system is really annoying because the calls come at really inconvenient times, like four in the morning, but it nice to know right away that we have a snow day or a delay,” said Meredith Murphy, 11.
