Scholastics- the one annual competition guaranteed to bring stress to the young artists at SHS. This year in particular, photographers were faced with a bigger challenge than usual.
Because of a mishap in communication photography students were caught by surprise when they were told submissions were due Fri., Jan. 6. They had two days to prepare their work for this competition.
“For some reason, I thought the entries were due the following Friday,” said Ritvik Vasudevan, 12.
The error was, the entries were going to be judged the following Friday, Jan. 13, but the work was due a work prior to that date.
Although these circumstances were not favorable, students strived to put their work together in the limited time they had.
“It was definitely more stressful with the lack of time, but I was able to submit work by staying after to scan my prints in,” said Caroline Bresnahan, 12.
The Scholastic Art and Writing contest is one many students love to participate in; one of the most prestigious in the nation. It allows young artists to be recognized for the skill and have the opportunity to receive scholarships from 30 different institutions.
After two days of hard work, students were able to pull some submissions together. 69 photography entries were entered this year.
