Good winter; the literal meaning of the intentionally misspelled band name http://boniver.org/. And what a good winter it has been for the Independent rock band headed by the down to earth Justin Vernon.
Feb.12, at the http://www.grammy.com/, the unassuming group took home the awards for best new artist and best alternative albums. But, in lieu of these great awards they stayed true to their independent roots saying,
"There's so much talent out here... and there's a lot of talent that's not here tonight. It's also hard to accept because you know, when I started to make songs I did it for the inherent reward of making songs, so I'm a little bit uncomfortable up here", said Justin Vernon to the Huffington Post.
Uncomfortable, yes, but undeserving, no. While the Grammys themselves are quite an odd concept, Bon Iver winning one makes more sense than anything else that happened for the rest of the night.
This is because Justin Vernon is an artist that stays true to his art. When he was nominated for multiple Grammys he did not flaunt it, he was surprised and somewhat reproachful about the whole concept of the Grammys.
"I kind of felt like going up there and being like: 'everyone should go home, this is ridiculous. You should not be doing this. We should not be gathering in a big room and looking at each other and pretending that this is important.' That's what I would say”, and that is what he did say, to the Huffington Post.
Justin Vernon is an artist that knows where he came from, he knows where he is going, and he knows where his values lie. For these reasons no matter how many awards he wins, or however many albums he sells, he will always stay true to himself and that is why he will stay relevant.
