Aves Theater’s production of The Outsiders has been well advertised in the school, though few know about the art which is made underneath the stage.

Bradley Kirkendall, 11 has composed incidental music for the play this winter.

“I had seen other students do the same in the past, so I was inspired to write music for myself. The composition process was similar to what I expected, but conducting is much harder than I had anticipated,” said Kirkendall.

“I was really impressed with the composition,” said Jacob Wang, 9. “It’s fairly easy to play, but it sounds really nice.”

The “pit” (named after the area under the stage in which a musical orchestra typically plays) for The Outsiders will consist of a small string section as well as brass, minimal winds, and percussion.

“Bradley told us about his composition a few weeks before rehearsal started, and it seemed interesting. I really enjoy getting to work with the band students since we share such similar talents, but never really get to work together,” said Wang.

Aves Theater will present The Outsiders Feb. 2 through Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the main auditorium.
