During the Varsity basketball game on Jan. 2, the school dance team changed their typical routine.
Typically, Flyerettes perform pre-game as the basketball team has warm-ups and dance at half time to entertain the crowd. However, after pre-game the team retired for the night.
“It was strange to know that once we were done with our pre-game dance we didn’t have to go back out again,” said Megan Crone, 10.
SHS’s Step Team had their first half time performance at a Varsity basketball game this season.
Although they were complete with their dances for the night, the Flyerettes remained at the Varsity game for a practice immediately following.
“After school yesterday [Jan. 3] it was extremely chaotic. Right after school I had to start my homework- no procrastinating- and then meet up with the team at 6. I didn’t get home until around 9 and I still had to finish homework and shower. It is no wonder high school students are sleep deprived,” said Katie Pruitt, 10.
The Flyerettes practices remain every Tuesday and Thursday, once a month having a Saturday practice.
Learning dances to perform at basketball games are not their only task, the girls also perform at charity events, UC basketball games, the Variety Show, and Varsity football games in the fall.
“The UC basketball game that we performed at was probably the most nervous I have been so far. It seemed like there were people watching from every angle,” said Breanna Ferguson, 11.
With all the time they spend practicing, Flyerettes are caught up with all of their dances and will resume their half time performances on Jan. 6.
