Bundle up, hockey fans. This coming Friday, Dec. 16th the SHS Varsity hockey team will face-off against Troy High School at 7:00 p.m. at SHS’s home ice rink, The Sphere, located on Reading road. So far, the team is off to a league record of 1-1-1, which means one win, one loss, and one tie.

Considering the loss of last year’s seniors, the remainder of the team knows that they will have big shoes to fill for this season. Which, as it turns out, they have done a pretty swell job in doing so.

“We’ve come together as a team, and we’re going to have an extremely successful year,” said Brian Beaudry 11, a starter forward for the squad. Beaudry also played on the Varsity team last year.

Zach Samuelson, 10, who plays forward alongside Beaudry, is one of the few injuries that the Varsity team endured so far this season. Samuelson recently suffered a concussion in one of the primary games of this young season. However, Samuelson has recently seen a doctor, and fortunately has since been cleared to play.

“The team has played a lot of games that I wasn’t there for (from the concussion), I missed my time with them, but now I’m just happy to be back on the ice,” said Samuelson.

The team’s previous match-up against Talawanda High School in Oxford, Ohio concluded with a 3-3 draw, settling for a single point in the league standings.
