One year after the Egyptian revolution and the start of the Arab Spring, Egypt had its first Parliament election in the past six decades open session on Jan. 23.

“This is democracy that had left this hall for years, and now the people have grasped it. We want Egypt and the whole world to know that our revolution will continue and we will not rest and our eyes will not sleep until the revolution fulfills all its demands,” said Saad-el Katatnia, a brotherhood supporter.

The Muslim Brotherhood, an Egyptian political group, had to make a touch decision and got into a shouting match picking a candidate. It took until night for the Brotherhood to give up all other candidates and rely on, Saad el-Katatnia.

The Brotherhood won almost half the seats during the free elections. After being shadowed for 84 years by monarchs, the Brotherhood stayed alive. The Brotherhood was once the once important group that had political power.

Men in the streets sang religious and patriotic songs and danced in the streets. They carried an old man with his suit and tie on their shoulders to lead them. Some others handed lawmakers flowers, while others cried tears of joy.
