The second of the three dances at SHS, Winter Formal, was a success on Feb. 11. Around 400 students, from all of the grade levels, attended the dance. The students listened and danced to many popular, new songs specifically chosen by the SHS Student Council.

“I had a really good time at my first Winter Formal. The theme was creative and I could tell that our Student Council had put a lot of time and effort into the dance,” said Hunter Tidwell, 9.

The theme was Arabian Knights including a Taj Mahal and many other decorations. It took members of Student Council almost five hours to set up the decorations, placing roses everywhere around the school.

“I went in a fairly large group and we really enjoyed ourselves. The three hours were spent socializing and dancing with friends, while enjoying the decorations,” said Nick Hershey, 10.

Student Council had been preparing for over a month, choosing songs, and creating decorations. Some of the songs included “Teach Me How Dougie” by Cali Swag District and “Pretty Girl Rock” by Keri Hilson.

“It took such a long time to prepare for it, and then set it up on the day of the dance, so I’m really glad that it all paid off,” said Clara Chuey, 9, a member of Student Council.

The members of Student Council were thrilled at the success of Winter Formal. The students had a good time and made Feb. 11 a night they will always remember. The juniors and seniors are now looking forward to a wonderful Prom.
