JS: Describe a DECA competition.
HW: Well, first, you pick a topic that interests you. Then, at the competition, you take a one hundred
question multiple choice test and subsequently given a role play business
problem. You (and sometimes with a partner) have to come up with solutions to
this problem and present them to the judges.
JS: What are the different topics to choose from?
HW: There are a lot to choose from, but some popular ones are travel and tourism,
sports and entertainment, apparel and accessories.
JS: What topic do you mostly do?
HW: I like to participate in travel and tourism, but others like to play the field
and switch between several topics.
JS: What is your favorite part of competitions?
HW: Missing school and solving the problem I'm doing.
JS: Where was the last competition you participated in?
HW: It was at UC-Clermont.
JS: How did you do in this?
HW: My partner and I, Stephanie Cianciolo 11, won second place in travel and tourism,
and we will be moving on to state competition in Columbus in March.
JS: Any final thoughts to the readers?
HW: DECA is a lot of fun and has taught me a lot about the aspects of business.
