The hype over “The Vow,” starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, may have been over exaggerated. After seeing it this weekend at Rave Cinemas in Milford, it was somewhat disappointing.
“I was planning on taking my girlfriend to see it on Valentine’s Day, but after I heard the awful reviews, I just decided to take her out to dinner,” said Sean Cliver, 10.
Commercials advertising the movie puffed up the excitement of people everywhere, however, the trailers did not give enough information relating to how the movie would be played out.
The movie was based off the true story of Kim and Krickett Carpenter. In the book, Krickett loses her memory after being in a terrible car accident and no longer remembers being married to her husband. Just like the movie.
In the movie, however, there are blatant changes to the story and characters. Such as, how they met, their careers, their personalities, and even their family life.
“I expected the movie to be just like the book after watching the trailer,” said Stephanie Kessel, 12. “I had no idea how much they would alter it. In my opinion, the book was far better.”
After seeing movies like “The Notebook,” with McAdams, or “Dear John,” with Tatum, students here at SHS might have expected a movie that had the quality of both movies combined. Hence, the hype.
“The Notebook” is my favorite movie, I was expecting ‘The Vow’ to be a step up from that and wow me,” said Anna May, 11. “However, it did not even come close to being as good as either of the other movies.”
If you are still craving to see this movie, wait for it to come out on DVD or Blu-ray. Don’t bother spending $10.00. It is not worth it.
