Every year, SHS cheerleaders have one day devoted to honoring the seniors and their last few months at sycamore. Senior Night is a well-practiced tradition dedicated to the senior athletes.

“I loved Senior Night,” said Jordyn Bryant, 9. “It was a really exciting way to celebrate our seniors who have taught us so much about cheerleading at the high school as well as coping with all the changes.”

This basketball season, seniors got the chance to dress the underclassman in their choice of clothing. Whether that have been prom dresses or potato sacks, Senior Night is all about showing respect for your seniors.

“Last year the seniors made us wear snow clothes such as snow pants and heavy jackets,” said Sara Evans, 11. “We’ve also had to wear prom dresses in the past as well.”

This year’s seniors decided their underclassmen were going to wear trash bags. They were allowed to pair their trash bags with high heels and necklaces, but none the less, they had to wear them to show respect to their seniors.

This wardrobe choice caused much controversy due to the fact that administrators thought that it could in fact be a health hazard. Students were then instructed to take off the trash bags and continued the rest of their day without further interruption.

“I didn’t really mind wearing the trash bags,” said Logan Firito, 10. “When I’m a senior I really hope the underclassman respect my wishes like I respected my seniors’ wishes and wear what I chose.”
