Four years ago, when the current seniors on the SHS hockey team were mere freshman, the eldest members of the team expressed some sincere advice.
"Don't blink 'Bondy' because before you know it you will be the senior," said Michael Bond, 12. "Every year the Seniors would tell me that, and I really feel like I blinked."
This Friday, Jan. 27, the hockey team, who is ranked 55th in the state of Ohio, will take on the 77th ranked Elder Panthers, at SHS's home ice, The Sphere. This particular game, however, is extra special to the seniors on the team, because this is an extra special game for them. It is Senior Night.
"When I was an underclassmen, I had no idea how meaningful Senior Night was to the seniors. Now, however, I can honestly say I do," said Bond.
But the Class of 2012 aren't the only ones with something to prove in the game.
"Every game is super important, however this game will have a huge attendance, so it is that much more important to play well to show our fans what Sycamore hockey is truly about," said Zach Samuelson, 10 who plays on the Varsity hockey team along with most of the Seniors.
With so much on the line for this game, the entire team, whether it be younger or older members, will play hard until the final whistle.
"Senior Night will be the most exciting and bittersweet game of my hockey career," said Bond. "My fellow seniors and I have participated in many Senior Nights, however this time, we are the eniors and that is what makes it completely different than any other night."
The team, who has a 2-0 record against this upcoming Elder team this season, asks the Ave Cave to 'white-out' the game, so be sure to show up in all white clothing. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
