Mock Trial is one of the most complicated, yet unheard of clubs that exists. SHS Mock Trial is composed of three strong teams that have been preparing since October, 2011. All three teams participated in their district competition on Jan. 31.

“I’m extremely proud of the Mock Trial students. Mock Trial requires tremendous time and dedication. Their success is directly correlated to the many hours devoted to the club. Every year I am astonished by each and every one of the students’ performances. It is amazing to see how much they grow in such a short period of time. This year is no different. The students did an amazing job representing SHS,” said Drew Ostendorf, SHS Mock Trial coach.

The three teams are Green, Gold, and Aves. Each team has two rounds, each round being one trial. Some of the better teams in our district include Saint Xavier and Indian Hill. Our Aves team had to go up against a strong Indian Hill team and narrowly missed the victory. The Green team was able to defeat Turpin but lost by one point to Ursuline Academy.

“We were well prepared, but unfortunately, so were our opponents. It was a close trial and we were going up against good teams. I can’t wait till next year’s competition,” said Rajat Bhageria, 10.

One of the teams was able to qualify for regionals, only the second team to achieve so in SHS history. They went up against two strong teams in Seven Hills and St. Ursula. They have their regional competition on Feb. 24 and they will be working hard to prepare and succeed at regionals as well.

“I thought we did so well at districts and I was so sorry to see the other teams narrowly miss their chance. I’m going to work really hard with the rest of our team at the rest of our practices so we can reach even further in the competition,” said Ryan Rasulis, 12.
