Last year the Senate Education Committee passed Senate Bill 18 which allowed Ohio schools to have a maximum of five calamity days. Since this bill has been passed, Ohio has not taken advantage of the extra days given.
“Even last year I think we only had one or two snow days,” said Jordan Elder, 10.
Normally SHS gets 2-3 snow days each year, but this year students have noticed that they have yet to have even one snow day.
With the weather never at a steady temperature and the winter months passing by quickly, the chances of getting a snow day are slowly slipping away.
“I don’t think we will get a snow day this year. We have had barely any snow,” said Melissa Sodi, 9.
Cincinnati normally receives 12.4 inches of snow each winter, but this year Cincinnati has only received 2 inches of snow and the winter is quickly coming to an end.
“We have definitely gotten less snow this year than normal. I think it has only snowed about three times,” said Olivia Wells, 9.
Even though students are looking forward to the end of winter, they are hoping to receive at least one snow day.
