As winter sports come to a close, several spring sports, including softball, are beginning to hold tryouts. Softball, one of the eight spring sports SHS offers, will be holding tryouts from Feb. 20-24.
“I’m excited and nervous for tryouts at the same time,” said Kennedy Abrams, 11.
The team has been working out three days a week since the beginning of Jan. to prepare for the season. Along with working out, most players participated in a winter league. SHS had two teams in the league, each of which played five games each.
“I think the indoor league helped us because it bonded us and we learned each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” said Abrams.
For the normal season, there will be two teams for SHS, varsity and junior varsity. There will be no freshmen team due to a lack of freshmen players.
Players are hopeful that the hard work they have put in during the off season will pay off and help for a successful season.
“It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come since the beginning of conditioning. This will hopefully translate into our season,” said Lydia Sloan, 9.
