These last two weeks in Cheralyn Jardine’s journalism class, students have been learning how to shoot, and edit public Service Announcements. The use of these PSA’s is for upcoming 8th graders to see a summarized version of this class.
“We have been working pretty hard at these for a couple of weeks, and hopefully the end quality of our products matches our efforts,” said Jimmy Chau, 12.
Eventually, journalism plans to use these PSA’s for goaves.com, and to compete in competitions. The making of these short informative clips is a big change compared to what the journalism students are used to in writing assignments.
“Making this video for the 8th graders to see was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed playing a part in some of these videos,” said John Carroll, 10.
Each group in the class had to make a 30 second clip, and writing scripts for this video is very difficult. The difficulty with writing scripts is you have to use the least amount of words, while still providing an informative and resourceful video.
“PSA’s are very fun, as long as you work together with your group, cooperate, and make sure that you express your ideas beforehand. Fighting in the group can cause major setbacks,” said Zach Fritzhand, 9.
