Dances have always been a tradition in high school. Many parents still remember their experiences from the dances back when they attended school. Good memories they will always cherish. But with this Winter Formal, many were very disappointed.
“I thought that this year’s Winter Formal was going to be busier,” said Addy Enderle, 12.
This year’s theme was ‘Arabian Nights,’ and as you walked in you saw fountains and palaces to fit the setting. Students at SHS feel that the theme does not really matter, and what they care about is that the DJ plays good music.
The DJ this year played decent songs to dance to, even though some of the songs were a bit overplayed throughout the year on the radio, many students were still able to make do with the songs.
One thing that really bothered students is the fact that the DJ played slow songs in between some of the best dance songs of the night. By doing this, this caused many of the students to lose their groove and have to change the way they were dancing.
“The situation involving the songs order really bothered me. If you are going to play the slow songs play them in order do not put them in the mash up with harder dance songs,” said Branan Foster, 11.
The ‘No grinding’ policy was not being strictly enforced, although administrators were putting a stop to the students who chose to dance inappropriately.
Although Winter Formal is a dance at SHS, it is not really as popular as Homecoming and Prom. Students say that because of how music is played and what is played causes the lack of people wanting to come attend these events.
“After going to this Winter Formal, I doubt that I will go next year. Homecoming definitely was more popular and played better music,” said Brennon Shanks, 9.
