Weather prohibiting snow experience

Cincinnati weather, known for its constant changes from hot to cold or sunny to rainy, causes many restrictions on what the residents are able to do during the seasons. The restriction that this article focuses on is snow sports.

“I am not really into snow sports, but I wanted to try snowboarding this year. Every time I want to try it my friends tell me it is not a good time to go,” said Brooke Rosen, 12.

Snow sports are not really popular up in states like Ohio, but those who are interested, found this year’s season at Perfect North, has not been good. Fresh powder is what snow sport enthusiasts expect, what they receive is ice.

“We have not really ran the snow blowers as much as we really would like to this year. The reason why is because we don’t have the temperature to get the snow to stick,” said Kellie McClanahan, an employee at Perfect North.

The weather in December was mostly over 32 degrees, or when it was cold enough to have snow, there was no precipitation. Now that we have reached the part of the year when Cincinnati usually expects snow, it causes worry.

Many conspiracies have been stirred about us receiving snow right when spring starts, leaving spring to come around later in the early months. Other rumors going around SHS are that the seasons are flipping.

Even though Ski Club at SHS still goes every Tuesday to Perfect North, does the ice under the snow really give the experience that skiers and snowboarders want? Are they getting what they paid for?

“Even though we get to go and enjoy riding down the hills, it is not as fun when there is a solid coat of ice under it all,” said Reily Reddy, 9.
